How has gold performed each calendar year?

Each line starts at 0% on the year's first available price and tracks gold's (XAU/USD) return through December 31 of that year, so years of very different price levels overlay cleanly and seasonal patterns are easy to compare. The current year is plotted only up to the latest available price — no projected or synthetic data.

Methodology & limitations
  • Each year is rebased to 0% at its first available price, not a fixed calendar price target.
  • Covers 2000 through the current year. 2000 is a partial year — free price history for gold starts August 30, 2000.
  • Priced via GC=F (COMEX gold futures, continuous contract), the free-data proxy for XAU/USD spot — the same feed behind the metals risk model.
  • Prices are weekly closes, not daily — a year's line has ~52 points, not one per trading day.
  • Past years are not a guarantee of how the current or future years will perform.
